BEAVER CREEK, COLORADO (July 16, 2016) – I enjoyed a beautiful summer weekend at Beaver Creek covering the XTERRA Mountain Championship on Saturday and the XTERRA Beaver Creek Trail Runs on Sunday.
In Saturday’s triathlon, the hometown favorite and reigning world champion, Josiah Middaugh, defended his title in a deep men’s field. Middaugh overcame a tough challenge by an up-and-coming 20-year-old, Sam Long of Boulder, who finished second. Rom Akerson of Costa Rica took third. Former University of Colorado triathlon star Cédric Wane won the men’s amateur division while slotting in at 13th overall amidst the pros.
In the women’s race, Californian Julie Baker took top honors, followed by Suzanne Snyder from Reno in second and Maia Ignatz of Boulder in third. University of Colorado triathlon standout Tess Amer won the women’s amateur division with a time that bested the entire women’s pro field. No doubt she’ll have plans to turn pro soon!
